Shanghai China Travel Guide

Sharing our Shanghai China Travel Guide with you today!
Visited: January 2020
Temperature: Cold (30 degrees Fahrenheit) and rainy
Days Spent: 1 full day in the city, 3 at Shanghai Disney Resort

We had quite the adventure getting to Shanghai, including missing our connection (not our fault), being reassigned to a different airline putting us in Shanghai 5 hours later than expected, and landing in Shanghai with no bags. Despite everything though, we arrived safe and sound and Shanghai was such a fun city. We loved everything about it.

Shanghai is so unique and beautiful. We loved the huge skyscrapers and city with the historical beautiful temples mixed in. I highly recommend a visit there is on your list.

We hired a private tour guide via Viator. Our tour guide-Rita, was amazing. She was so knowledgable and patient with us and our baby. We learned so much from her about China and little things we could not have learned from our research. We loved our time with her. We especially loved having a private car and driver to get us places quick.

Our first stop on our tour was the Jade Buddha Temple. This temple is so beautiful and old and the architecture is stunning.

After the Jade Buddha Temple, we went to the Tianzifang area. It is an area of the French Concession with cute boutiques, fun shopping, food and entertainment. Our tour guide did tell us it was touristy and the food in the area was catered to tourists. We did try a soup dumpling though and it was delicious.

Our next stop was lunch. We went to an authentic Chinese restaurant. I need to find out the name because it was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. Our guide taught us the proper way to eat certain dishes like noodles and dumplings. She had kind of laughed earlier when we tried the soup dumpling because of the more touristy area we were in and said we would try even better ones at lunch, and they definitely were even more delicious.

After lunch we saw so many places-
The Chenghuang Temple- this temple dates back to the Ming Dynasty and has been converted into a shopping area. This is also the area where a huge Lunar New Year celebration is held. We visited a few weeks out from the celebration.

Yu Garden- a beautiful garden that was home to a royal family.

The Former French Concession- a really unique and fun area to walk around

Pearl Tower- we didn’t go up because it was super foggy and rainy, but from the outside this building is huge and incredible

The Disney Store- we had to visit the flagship Disney Store in Shanghai. This store was so fun and unique.

The Bund- beautiful waterfront area of Shanghai.

Our tour ended with The Bund, but we had a full day exploring tons and felt it was well worth our money and time. We still had a few hours before we were ready to head to our next location so we explored the area around our hotel.

Nanjing Road- one of the largest shopping areas in the world, our hotel was in this area so it was a quick walk. It was fun checking out the unique stores and a few regulars.

We have used Viator so many times in the past and have loved our experience with them. This is not sponsored and our honest opinion
